ROI LIVE OIL PAINTING
To push myself to experience oil painting outdoors en plein air, I joined the ROI event for the day in December where a light-hearted competition takes place.

Artists in oil paint come and receive two canvases from the Mall Galleries before being sent off to capture a scene within a half-mile radius of the facility.

At the end of the day the paintings are judged and the judges explain what they liked about each “winner”.
I learnt a lot from painting this day - from the changeability of the lighting and weather to the issue I usually have with overworking a scene.
My favourite art by others definitely utilised an economy of brush strokes and demonstrated an understanding of what each addition to the painting was for and what it achieved.
