Going on a Photography Walk

This was something a little different for me!

One summer evening this July I set out to go on a photowalk with Mopho London (modern photography society, London) in Regent's Park.

I dusted off my old cameras which I only really use to photograph my finished paintings, and re-learnt (for the 100th time) what settings work for different lighting situations. It was so fun to remember how to look at the world with a camera in hand with care again. 

I was really keen for this to be an opportunity for me to get my creative juices flowing and perhaps even snap some photos that can end up being inspiration or references for me to use in my art practice in the future!

I had such an amazing time, and realised I had probably been overworking myself a bit lately. This was a way to still work towards my creative practice without feeling the pressure of creating constantly and producing finished work that can be seen. 

The theme of the walk was 'Hot Summer Nights, Mid July' and we talked about composition that would tell a story as well as indicate us being in London. 

I took a few too many photos of geese but otherwise I had a blast taking these photos! The two I submitted were the ones I felt told a story the most:

'Warm Sun Rays on Long Work Days' - A man in work clothes sits cross legged in the evening sunlight by the water's edge, becoming human again.

'Right to Relax' - From under the shaded canopy of a London plane tree, a couple can be seen escaping out of frame into the sunshine with a pair of deck chairs that usually cost money to sit in.

The rest were photos I took of friends, dappled lighting, wildlife and water. It was the perfect use of a summer evening!
