Transforming Winns Gallery into a Home

Transforming Winns Gallery into a Home

A lot of my artwork focuses on paying attention to small moments of connection between people - particuarly over a shared meal or cup of tea.

In many ways, the home is the perfect setting for these scenes, as acts of care by sharing food and space is inherent within shared living quarters.

So I was so pleased to be informed that three of my paintings will be displayed at Waltham Collective’s upcoming exhibition “OPEN HOUSE: Transforming Winns Gallery into a Home”!

Each artwork you submit needs to be assigned to a typical “room” in a home, and many of mine pertained to the kitchen as you can imagine.

The exhibition runs from May 2nd to May 5th - so there’s only a short window of opportunity to visit Winns Gallery (Aveling Centre, Lloyd Park E17 5JW) to see it for yourself!

What makes me excited is that my focus on the theme of human connection through the catalyst of food and meals is now becoming something recognised!

All artists worry that what they are doing might not come across or mean something to others. I have worried a lot that my paintings don’t do much more than depict a scene.

However, I have always felt that the mere act of painting something imbues it with more importance, and so whoever enjoys that artwork is being shown a world in which these smaller moments of joy and connection are important and worth taking in when they are happening.

I want to continue to paint more food scenes that emphasise connection - and I’m lucky enough that I have lots of experiences like these to use as inspiration.

I hope that more galleries and people will recognise these smaller moments as foundational to solidifying our mental strength, so that we can go forth and do good in the world with the knowledge that the people around us care for us in ways we might have missed before.
